Butterflies will always hold a special place in my heart, and I was so thrilled when my class kit was revealed. In many hospitals, a butterfly symbol is placed on the door to gently signal that a family inside is grieving the loss of a baby, reminding staff to move with extra care and tenderness. It’s also a symbol of pregnancy and infant loss, a community I know far too well. This year marks eleven years since losing Ellie and ten years since losing Layton, and I will never forget the kindness and empathy we were shown during those times. Creating with butterflies feels like a small way to honor both of my little ones, and to honor anyone who carries a similar story.
